It was previously called the Ultimate the name changed a couple years ago. I wouldn’t say it is the ultimate spot its just a spot to go to, before they start charging. I don’t believe that bars should charge you to enter to then pay more money for food, drinks, tips, hookahs and games ect. Before the ratchet charging to enter begins the food is actually pretty good: fried lobster tail & crab claws are my favorite. If you want the best service consistently then sit at the bar. The unfortunate part is the really good bartenders don’t come until the evening! There is a click of good bartenders that work here and they usually work together they engage the customers at the bar, make great drinks have a lot of personality and make sure that your food is right before they hand it to you, they earn their tips! If you don’t get them you get what I got the day I went… Had to send food back, 3 ketchup bottles on the bar were empty, glasses dirty, never got water… looked up and bartender was on the mechanical bull! The food was good: crab claws, fried green tomatoes, broccoli as always you just have to go through a lot to get to it. A guy at the bar took care of our tab, that happens a lot as well which also gives this location extra points.

The parking is great, it is free and there is a lot of it. They have two sets of bathrooms which is good because it greatly reduces wait time, however there was no tissue and they were nasty this day and it was the middle of the day and not very busy, when you would assume they were clean. The music is good and there are a lot of TV monitors that show a variety of things including videos to correlate with the music being played. The waitresses are dressed like upscale Hooter’s girls and some of those sisters should NOT be in those uniforms, but you know they say Thick is It. This is a place to go to if you are in the mood for this type of environment… men, grown men pants might be sagging, many will have on baseball caps, the women including the wait staff sometimes look like they want to fight or will fight! Come early 4-7, you won’t have to pay to get in you will eat good food enjoy a hookah hear good music and get yourself in the mood to hang out with your adult friends in a more mature environment ☺

They have five locations and are really popular Cuban/Spanish spots that also has a Mexican section on their menu. The food is good, extremely authentic and flavorful and visually tantalizing as well. Look let me tell you the service…. Honey chile I don’t know if it’s the culture or what, but the customer service sucks. These had to be the most inattentive, un-energetic, boarder line rude servers Ever!

The restrooms are mediocre, basically clean. They have plenty of seating inside and outside and plenty of parking. I am glad they had a bar, the drink was ok and necessary. The Texas Margarita was ok… It was pre-made. The warm chips and freshly made salsa were great. I don’t prefer paying at the register, I like paying at my seat and leaving. The Paella was fresh filled with seafood and other meats, the onions and peppers were great. This might be their signature dish. Now the Arroz Con Pollo, half chicken with rice, onions tomatoes, peppers man the seasoning is nice! I actually look forward to going again and trying something different at another location hopefully the service is better. My meal and a drink were under $20. I do think that the price point is good, especially since the food is so tasty, but honey that bad service… booo!

The Gypsy Kitchen

Such a fly, contemporary eating spot and upscale watering hole. A great place to have a birthday dinner, take an out-of-town guest or meet a friend for drinks. I like being entertained and treated well! When I sat down they immediately gave us filtered water and this is at the bar I loved that. The cute little menus are folded on the bar and the tables and getting your water gives you time with no pressure to figure out what type of dining experience you want to have, I like this. The menu is filled with exotic, tasty options. We shared some Duck Tacos at the bar and at previous sitting we had the Monk Fish which was an enlightening experience for our eyes, taste buds and stomach! Do something different!! You can’t eat chicken wings all your life!!

I really enjoyed my bar experience the huge bull in the center of the bar grabbed and kept my focus and the upscale, top shelf liquor on the bar kept me smiling. The people around the bar were definitely diverse which made me feel comfortable, however the bar staff wasn’t diverse and were not friendly enough to me and my partner for my liking… I am pretty easy to please I think, but my first bartender was short and seemed to be patronizing us to hurry and get to the other side of the bar where she really wanted to be, that made me sad… I grabbed the bartender that was laughing and engaging in conversation with the couple sitting not far from me that just happened to look like me. It all ended well.

The bathrooms are amazing, like I could have been served my food in there amazing! Parking is downstairs and Valet only, $7. It was raining and I got wet running for cover, I wasn’t happy and I feel like if I am forced to Valet they should have umbrellas. Walking through the restaurant to the restroom all I could think about is when I wanted to return and who I wanted to invite to enjoy a dining experience with me, I am an art and deco junkie and this place had me on a real high, I just hope the wait staff is better than the bar staff!! ☺

Sweet Auburn Seafood

171 Auburn Ave, Atlanta, GA

Parking sucks but it’s worth the walk!  Remember it’s downtown Atlanta so try not to park and walk alone.  As soon as we approached the door we knew that we were in for a treat!  When we entered we were greeted with smiles, “welcome to Sweet Auburn Seafood” and good music.  The bar just drew me to it…  I was so pleased to see all the high-end liquor at the bar, I couldn’t wait to get to ordering.  They have a variety of imported and domestic beers which made me smile because so often African-American establishments only have:  Budweiser, Michelob and Heineken. They had good top shelf liquor on the bar and the bartender wasn’t afraid to pour it!  When I can go to an African-American establishment and get a high quality, strong drink, good music and a welcoming atmosphere I am definitely going back.  The bartender definitely sets the tone of the bar and this young lady did a great job, everyone at the bar was talking and laughing with one another, making meal and drink suggestions and networking.  I was in love.  I asked the bartender what her specialty was or the “house” favorite drink selection was and she said: “everything”.  Wrong answer!  I ordered a Cosmo and it came with no garnish so I was disappointed until I drank it, she didn’t short me on the liquor so I had a slight smile.  My neighbor’s drink looked so good so I told her and she informed me that she had to coach her on how to prepare and garnish her drink and my response was:  I am not going to do all that!

We had seafood nachos and crab cake small plates.  I believe in small plates at the bar.  The crab was scrumptious not a lot of fillers and the sauce served with it was perfect.  Now let me tell you about the nachos…  honey they had real seafood on the chips actual lobster, shrimp, crab and the cheese was perfect not overbearing, muah!  I highly recommend.  I was watching meals come out of the kitchen and when I say that everything looked fabulous I am saying that everything appeared perfect and the plates were definitely garnished.  I can’t wait to go back for brunch.  They get two thumbs up for having a brunch on Saturday and Sundays.

The management and owners were present and friendly and genuinely concerned about us being satisfied with our food and our service.  I appreciated that a great deal.  The restrooms were not only clean but decorated nicely and smelled good!  They have live music on Fridays and Saturdays and sometimes during the week.  They have a private dining area that you can reserve for large parties.  This a great place for an adult birthday celebration.  Fairly modestly priced menu, $25 will get you whatever you want to eat for the night.  Vegan/Vegetarian options: Spinach & Kale Salad, Veggie Rolls.

I recommend this place when you are in the mood for good seafood and if you are in the downtown area for a show or concert stop by the bar before or after to get in the mood or wind-down for the evening.
